What is the PTO?

We’re a not-for-profit organization.  We work with parents and teachers to provide assemblies, transportation for field trips, movie nights, etc.

The PTO was thanked in advance by the fourth grade students for their trip to the zoo this spring.

Comfort kits –

Karen will be delivering comfort kits to the classrooms; any volunteers that can help will be appreciated.  Comfort kits are kept in the classrooms in case of emergency.

Fundraisers –

The walk-a-jog-a-thon is our only fundraiser and is on October 3rd.  It’s a super fun event, come and run/walk with or cheer on your student.  This is an all day event and it takes a lot of volunteers.  The kickoff assembly is Wednesday, September, 17th at 2:15.  Our theme this year is Run Around the World.

New Business:

The website –

Belsa has revamped the previously neglected PTO website.  The web address is eagleridgepto.org.  Forms and contact information are available.  There is also information about Scrip, Box Tops, and Haggen School Bucks.  It was suggested that the address be put on the reader board.

The parking lot –

Parking lot issues continue this year.  Katrina has been volunteering in the mornings – putting out signs and directing drivers – but the problems continue.

Suggestions were:

  • Having a police officer out in the morning directing drivers for a few days,
  • Painting arrows on the road,
  • Having a curb put in

The school district needs to be made aware again of this area of concern.

Principal’s Comments –

Staffing –

Polly Rae retired and Julie Adams is now teaching in Lynden, where she lives.  Michelle Lewis is teaching 5th grade and Mrs. Mazur came from Bellingham to teach 2nd grade.  Ann Spitze is here all day now instead of splitting time with Horizon.  There were so many kindergarten families that registered a week before school started that a 4th teacher was hired this last Friday.  There are right around 500 students this year.

This is the best turnout for a PTO meeting!  Keep coming and invite everyone.

Parent volunteers are welcome and needed.  Mischa will send out an email to teachers about having sign-ups for parent volunteers – the PTO is not responsible for classroom volunteer sign-ups.

The open house is Tuesday, September, 16th at 6:30.

Meeting called at 7:53 pm.
